Western, AU: Wave Rock

I have been to Western Australia a few times to visit family, and before 2022 ended, I flew again to spend the New Year.

We welcome 2023 with an excursion to a popular tourist spot in Western Australia - the Wave Rock.

Located near the Wheatbelt town of Hyden, it was more than 2-hour drive from where we live. Yes, we drove over 2 hours one way passing by dry fields that look endless, barren hectare of lands, and lovely small towns.

At a certain time of the year, I heard some of these fields will be filled with canola flowers or hay. We even passed by a place where it's almost a dessert, totally barren.. just missed to take a photo. It was interesting!

This popular rock formation appears as a curved cliff, resembling a wave about to break. It is a 15-meter high granite cliff that stretches 110 meters. The Wave Rock is indeed mind-blowing; you will feel like a dwarf standing (and posing) underneath it.

A bit of hike is needed to get to the Wave Rock from the car park, not too far though, probably 10 - 15 mins. Opposite the rock formation are bushes and trees where you can take shelter if too hot. During our visit was summertime so it was scorching hot, hence, we only spent around 20 - 30 mins.

So we spent roughly 4 hours travel (back and forth) to take photos. Nonetheless, it was a fun experience. I believe you can still further explore the place to enjoy more the visit and not just take photo at the Wave Rock. 😄

Have you visited this place?
