Marina Bay Sands: Is It Worth It?

Have you desire of staying over at the Marina Bay Sands (MBS)?

You are definitely not alone! Who wouldn't want to stay in this iconic architecture with a rooftop infinitiy pool? Speaking of its famous infinity pool.... Oftentimes than not, people want to stay at MBS for the main reason of experiencing the pool. 😆

For many years, this high-end hotel has been in my bucket list but never could justify the expense, hence it remained in my bucket list.

...Until the day came to cross it out from my long list. Guess I get carried away too much 'cuz I stayed at MBS not just once but twice!!!$$$ 🤣

MBS is beyond a hotel; it has transformed into an epochal tourist destination in Singapore. MBS comes with a luxurious mall, conference centre, casino, 25 restaurants and a SkyPark observation deck. While the observation deck is open to the public (admission is at $26 for adults), the world's largest rooftop pool at the 57th floor is strictly for guest only. Hence, many opted to book a room at MBS. But is it really worth it?

Is the Marina Bay Sands worth it?

Built in an excellent location adjacent to Gardens By the Bay and a few minutes away from the Merlion Park, staying at MBS is sure a good experience.

Having stayed here twice, I had different experience each time.

On my first stay, we chose the room with gardens view. I thought it would be nicer than the city view. Since it was my first time, I was stunned... the interior was superb, it looked posh and indeed expensive. The room was clean and well-organised.

The room's interior was a combination of earth tone and neutral colours, from the wall to the furnishing. The room features common amenities from the LCD TV to the mini fridge. The floor-to-ceiling windows and door lead to the balcony overlooking the Gardens by the Bay. This concept gave the room natural lighting, but if this is not your liking then the blackout curtains can be closed using a remote control. There's also a sitting corner facing the windows, so you can read a book while enjoying a great view.

Staying at this room enabled us to witness the Garden Rhapsody, the nightly light show, from the top. It was a refreshing scene, especially with the ships docked from afar.

Of course, my favourite part was the bathroom which featured the basic essentials, a separate cubicle for the shower and toilet, big mirrors and .... bathtub! 😍

The bathroom is so spacious featuring 2 sink on a faux (I think🤔) marble-ish vanity top with a big mirror; on the side is another mirror just slightly above the large tub. Both the shower and toilet cubicles have frosted glass door while the bathroom itself has a wooden sliding door.

After a few months, we decided to stay at MBS as a staycation. This time, we opted for the room with a city view - facing the Merlion Park. I didn't expect too much from this stay; I thought it'll be boring since city view seems like ordinary as we see it on a daily basis. But I was wrong.... absolutely wrong...

It was during this moment that I realised the MBS is worth a try. Not a must rather a good accommodation to experience.

Similar to the first stay, the room had a floor-to-ceiling windows but this time no balcony with plants blocking the view. This time, we had a full-length view of the outside, either from the bed or the seat. The windows offer a natural backdrop to the interiors and provide stellar views at night time.

And the best part... we watched the Spectra – A Light & Water Show from the comfort of our room. It was such an incredible experience.

The Marina Bay Sands is famous for its much-talked-about rooftop infinity pool. As mentioned above, the primary reason why I wanted to stay at the MBS is the pool at the 57th floor sitting on a unique shaped structure constructed of spanning steels bridges hovering over the 3 towers below.

The pool is divided into 3 sections; one section appears having no edge which makes a perfect spot for an Instagramable snap with a background of the glittering expanse of the city skyline.

The pool is only accessible to hotel guests via the room key card and is open from 6am to 11pm. Despite being dubbed as the world's largest infinity pool, it can get crowded at any time of the day.... seriously crowded! 😱

On my first stay, we decided to take a dip at around 7am to avoid the crowd. Lucky we were able to get a good spot - the lounge chairs are just beside the pool itself. Around this time, the crowd wasn't crazy yet but there were already many guests enjoying the view and the pool.

The second stay was memorable not only because of the room choice but due to the pool experience as well... uhm it wasn't a good experience, though. 😩

Although we could witnessed the sunset from our room, I begged to capture it from the rooftop area - the pool. And so we changed to our swimming attire, covered with bathrobe then climb to the top..... to my horror, the pool was extremely crowded! With exaggeration... it was filled with guests like literally no more vacant lounge chair. My heart sank.. 😭💔 But we were still able to capture the sunset from the observation deck and of course from our room. 😁

Even the Jacuzzi on the other side of the rooftop (facing the Gardens by the Bay) was occupied.

The following day, we woke up early (I think 6am) to swim but we only stayed for less than 30 mins. 😆🤣 Why? Any guess??? I was surprised at the fact that many guests decided to swim as early as the opening time! 🤣

One thing that impressed me the most during my stay at the resort was the excellent and efficient service. Despite having a huge number of guests, the staff were warm and seemed to genuinely care about their guests. I remember at the check-in counter, a staff was offering refreshments and some chocolates to the guests queuing. A staff also visited our room to enquire if we needed anything and sort-of explained the room amenities, like how to operate the motorised curtain.

Overall, we had a pleasant experience at the Marina Bay Sands. Yep, you may be paying for the name but with the amenities and impressive service, it's worth a stay even just once in a lifetime. 😁
