Japan Tourist Visa: Application For Filipinos Based in Singapore

Who wouldn't want to visit the land of the rising sun? 😍 There are endless of reasons to visit this incredible country, from rich culture and tradition to sakura season.
 

For Philippine passport holders, a visa is required to enter Japan. And those who are based in Singapore, either resident or long-term pass holders (working), can apply for a visa at the Embassy of Japan. The application is less of a hassle and quick as long as you have the requirements.

Planning to apply for a single entry tourist visa to Japan? Here's a quick checklist and the simple steps.

Important Notice: Visa application from temporary visitors (tourists/business travellers) or foreigners transiting in Singapore are not accepted. The visa must be obtained at the Consulate or Embassy of Japan in the home country.

Step 1: Gather all the requirements listed below.

LIST OF REQUIREMENTS

     1. Valid Passport (Original)
  • Make sure your passport has at least 2 black visa pages and is valid for at least 6 months from the date of the intended trip.

     2. Visa Application Form (Original)
  • Download the visa application form here.
  • Each applicant MUST fill out and sign the form. In case of minor applicant, one of the parents can sign on behalf.

     3. Coloured Photo (Original)
  • Photo size: 4.5cmx4.5cm or 3.5cmx4.5cm
  • Photo must have a light background
  • Taken within the last 6 months.
    
      4. Certificate of Employment (COE)/Student (Original) 
  • The letter should be issued by employer/school within the last month from the application date. 
  • The COE must contain important details including issuance date, letterhead with the company name, address and contact number, applicant's salary, job position, join date, travel purpose, the party responsible for the travel expenses and the company representative's signature, name and title. No need to submit employment contract.
  • The certificate of student (COS) must include the following information, issuance date, letterhead with the school name, address and contact number, term of enrollment and school representative's signature, name and title.
  • For self-employed applicant with registered business in Singapore, provide a photocopy of the Business Registration Profile from ACRA with the applicant's personal savings account bank statement.

     5. Bank Statement/Passbook (Photocopy/Print out)
  • Personal savings account with the applicant’s (account holder) name, current balance and latest 1 month’s banking transactions.
  • E-statements, which can be downloaded online, are accepted as long as the account holder’s name and account number are reflected on the same page.

     6. Flight Booking (Photocopy/Print out)
  • Flight itinerary or reservation or tentative booking issued by airline/travel agent with the applicant’s name, booking number and flight details.
  • Booking should be a round trip ticket departing from Singapore.

     7. Identity Card (IC) issued by Singapore Government (Photocopy) 
  • A photocopy of front and back of any of the following ICs: Singapore PR I.C., Employment Pass (EP), Work Permit (WP), S-Pass (SP), Dependent Pass (DP), Student Pass (STP), Long-Term Visit Pass.
  • A print out of the ICs QR scan, showcasing the expiry date (for new ICs which doesn't show the expiry date). Download the SGWorkPass app and scan your IC's QR code. The scan must be done within the week of application.
If applicable,

     8. Authorization Letter (Original)
  • A letter is required if the application is made by a proxy

Notes:

- All documents must be printed or photocopied on an A4 size paper.
- Arrange the documents according to the checklist
- Each applicant must submit separate set
- Do not use any pin, paper clips or staple on the documents
- Credit card statement is not accepted

Tips:

- Additional documents might be requested, so I recommend to prepare whichever are applicable just in case: Tax Assessment (available at www.iras.gov.sg/) and print out of other country's e-visa (Australia or New Zealand), if available.
- Print the past 3 months of your savings account with the transactions.

Step 2: Submit your requirements at the Embassy of Japan. 
  • No need to set an appointment, just walk-in at the embassy BUT take note of the schedule.
  • Visa Fee is FREE
  • Filipinos can get a tourist visa at no cost.

Step 3: Collect your passport on the scheduled date.

Do note that accepting the requirements doesn't guarantee visa approval. The application will still undergo checking to determine if you will be granted with a visa.

Schedule of Submission and Collection

Open from Mondays-Fridays, except Embassy holidays. As of 25 February 2020, there has been a change of business hours.

9:00 AM – 11: 00 AM – Submission only
2:00 PM – 3:00 PM – Collection only

... And that's about it! If all the requirements are met, the single entry tourist visa can be issued after 5 working days. Note that express visa processing is not available. The submitted passports will not be returned during the processing period.
