Sky Mirror: A Gem in the Midst of the Sea

Witness the sky kisses the sea! Yup, it's possible in Kuala Selangor Beach.

Ever since I've come across online about the Mirror Lake in Bolivia, it has been piquing my interest.... but it's in the other part of the world! >_< then I discovered there's one in Malaysia! Hooray!!!!

After a few months of drooling over it, I finally booked a trip to this magical place known as Sky Mirror or Mirror of the Sky. I got the package @ SG$204.19 per pax at Trip.com.

The place is actually a sandbar; when the tide is low or the water is shallow, the sandbar emerges and the water reflects the blue sky and clouds, creating a spectacular illusion that makes a mind-boggling backdrop. This hidden gem is situated in the middle of the Straits of Malacca Sea which required around 30 - 45 mins boat ride from the jetty port in Kuala Selangor - an hour car ride from Kuala Lumpur.

The trip was actually unplanned, so I didn't have a choice but to go alone. I booked a regular 1/2 day tour package (there's a sunset package too) which included a RT transfer from/to Kuala Lumpur, boat ride, photography, insurance, snacks and a packet of nasi lemak (after the tour).

My driver picked me up at my hotel at around 8.30am then headed directly to Kuala Selangor, but along the way, we visited a Hindu temple and a museum since we still had enough time to explore. I was then dropped off at the jetty port where I saw a huge crowd.. Yikes so many tourist from different countries. My driver spoke with the staff then I was given a rubber bracelet that served as my ticket, I think... ^_^

After a few minutes of waiting, the tourists were divided in several groups and escorted to the port. Before we departed, we were required to put on the life jacket then the orientation began. We had 2 tour guides/photographers and 2 boatmen as well.

I was staring at the brownish waters alongside the mainland and observing the way of life of the residents living near the area... when my brain started to scare me, imagining crocodiles beneath the waters although I know no living crocodylians can live at the sea.. ahhh brain staph!! >_<

So as we got farther from the mainland, I started to enjoy the fantastic view of the sea and got more excited to reach this famed destination. I was so ready for an extraordinary experience in the middle of the sea!

As our boat drew nearer to the sandbar of Sasaran Beach, I could see many tourists taking snaps in different creative ways....  Our boat docked and the crew helped us get off. Our crew brought along the props to the farthest end of the sandbar to get the best spot.

Both our tour guides/photographers started setting up the props while the rest of us did our own thing - took unlimited pictures against the huge reflection of the blue sky.

After an hour or so, our guides finally completed the set up and began our photoshoot.

The scorching heat of the sun was unforgiving, it was blinding. The worse thing...I forgot to bring sunscreen..!!! ahhhhh of all the things I'll forgot, it's the sunscreen... grrrr

Our photographers snapped photos on each of us with the picturesque mirror-like reflection. There were some items we could use such as the rainbow umbrella and the miniature red telephone booth and Eiffel Tower.

I was using the umbrella since we got off the boat so I used it as my prop...dang, I looked like Mary Poppins! >_<

I am so bad at poses that I didn't know what to do in front of the camera which is why I always prefer candid shots.. ^_^

Good thing the photographer shared some tips and directed us on what to do. Hence, I managed to pull off some poses (funny poses) T_T

We took advantage of the fine weather and snapped as much photos as we can, then it was a wrap! Time to go back.

Kudos to the tour guides/photographers and boat crew for the efforts they have done and in taking care of all of us, not to mention their patience in setting up the props to produce spectacular shots.

Once we were back on the boat, the boatmen distributed some light snacks and water. It was then that I felt tired.... due to the heat. hahaha

Back to the mainland, we had a pack of Nasi Lemak for lunch.

I waited for my driver to pick me up; I was sleeping the whole time heading back to Kuala Lumpur. Originally, I planned to take another tour - fireflies and Blue tears but since I was dead tired, I opted to go back.

Was it worth it? Absolutely yes! Anyone will fall in love with the breathtaking scenery and natural beauty of this part Malaysia. Simply magical, so surreal!
